Honorary Wardens Conference, 2022

The Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Najib Balala, has today morning graced the Honorary Warden Conference, at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

“It is my pleasure and an honor to be among enthusiasts of conservation.  I am glad you were all able to come to this conference, the first of its kind.” Said CS Balala.

Honorary Wardens are appointed based on their various expertise on a voluntary basis to perform activities that enhance the achievement of the mandate of the Ministry, specifically the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), in wildlife conservation and management throughout the country.

“Your role is critical in wildlife conservation, human wildlife conflict management, promotion of tourism in National Parks, creation of conservation awareness, resource mobilization, management of wildfires, wildlife translocation, wildlife census, species and ecosystem monitoring, veterinary services and enhancement of wildlife security in their respective areas among others.” Balala noted.

He further told KWS to strengthen the engagement framework with honorary Wardens wishing to see more structured engagement and follow up on actions.

In the event , the CS unveiled a model outfit fulfilling the honorary wardens long time desire for a uniform that will identify them with wildlife conservation over and above the honorary wardens Identification Card.

“ My Ministry has worked hard to revamp the honorary wardenship programme. You will notice that I have introduced different cadres to enhance participation and engagement. To further strengthen this, I direct KWS to also explore the mechanism to include more Youth in the Honorary Wardens programme,” said Balala.
