Kenya and China Join Forces With an Aim to Welcome 300,000 Chinese Travelers – 10/8/2023

The Cabinet Secretary (CS), Hon. Peninah Malonza, yesterday evening hosted the heads of Chinese Media Organizations to a dinner at the Nairobi Serena Hotel, where they discussed areas of collaboration with a united vision of establishing Kenya as an everlasting Chinese tourist haven.

The gala dinner, graced by esteemed guests such as the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Zhou Pingjian and United Nations Resident Coordinator, Dr. Stephen Jackson, centered on discussions about showcasing Kenya’s remarkable tourism experiences through positive narratives, with a goal of increasing Chinese arrivals to Kenya to at least 300,000.

“Unlike other destinations, Kenya has a lot to offer, and with support from the Chinese government and media, we will surely meet and surpass our targets,” said CS Malonza.

Kenya’s lush landscapes, vibrant culture, and diverse wildlife, create an opportunity for travellers to immerse themselves in our rich traditions and sceneries, and make unforgettable memories.

“We are committed to positioning Kenya as a year-round tourist destination for the Chinese source market, through the media, in order to increase visits to destination Kenya,” added Malonza.

Backed by the endorsement of the Chinese government and media, Kenya is poised to captivate the hearts of Chinese tourists.

Other prominent figures present during the dinner include: Principal Secretary State Department for Culture and Heritage, Ms. Ummi Bashir, Kenya Tourism Board Ag. Chief Executive Officer, Mr. John Chirchir, Director-General of Xinhua News Africa Bureau, Mr. Ying Qiang, and Acting Bureau Chief of China Media Group, Ms. Song Jiang.
