PS KWEKWE PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT WITH KWALE TOURISM STAKEHOLDERS

The Principal Secretary for the State Department of Tourism, Hon. Safina Kwekwe Tsungu, yesterday engaged Kwale Tourism stakeholders in a public participation on mattress affecting tourism in the region.
The pertinent issues raised during the forum are, beach cleanliness, security, and self-policing. The PS advised that associations are a good start on matters of self-policing, and that each stakeholder should at least be in one association.
“Beach cleanliness is a collective responsibility.  Tour operators, hotels, and the community need to work together in making sure that our beaches are clean,” said the PS.
On matters of security, the PS stated that we are revamping the Tourist Police Unit, with Diani being the pilot area. Also, youth from the communities will be trained as lifeguards in order to better manage the beach.
