MINISTRY SIGNS PERFORMANCE CONTRACT
(Date Published: 23 July 2007)
Permanent Secretary Rebecca Nabutola, on Friday signed a performance contract for the year 2007/2008 on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife during a ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. The signing was witnessed by Minister Hon. Morris Dzoro.
This time round, the stakes are high for the tourism ministry to improve on its 3rd best ranking which it attained in the last performance cycle. The Ministry management is however upbeat of posting better results going the vibrancy in the sector and enhanced performance in its State corporations.
Competition is expected to be stiff this year which will spur creativity and innovativeness but the tourism ministry is bracing itself to do whatever it takes to achieve the top ranking. In the previous years, the Heads of Department/Sections/Units had to come with an update of the achievements in their respective areas which they discussed in meetings chaired by the Permanent Secretary. The targets for the ensuing quarter are set taking into consideration the variance between the cumulative target and cumulative achievement. This enabled the Ministry to keep track on the achievements, set targets and take timely corrective measures. Expectations are high that the 2006/2007 performance results which will be released later this year will confirm the Ministry as the best performing. The worst case scenario is dropping from the third position.
